Auguste Rodin: Drawings and Watercolors Details

From Library Journal This English translation of a magnifi cent exhibition catalog from the West falishes Landesmuseum in Munster of fers new and invaluable information on Rodin's artistic production. The five essays, by German and American art historians, are substantive explorations of the relationship between the artist's two-dimensional works and his sculp ture. Rodin's draftsmanship is intelli gently discussed within the context of the late 19th-century art world. The sheer number of drawings from his large oeuvre that are well reproduced and documented here makes this book a true asset to museum and other schol arly researchers. Highly recommend ed. Paula A. Reviews

First, I think this book is too long; do we need so many sketches? And they are rapid, clumsy sketches--few are finished drawings. Rodin was/is a terrific sculptor, but to me his draftsmanship is an acquired taste.
